My Favourite Colour - Black

Black is a colour that seems to encompass the infinite - a set of bountless possibilities in that speck of void. Black has been traditionally linked with darkness, black magic and all the possible negative traits. But why is it so. From the effulgent light of the day to the mysterious darkness of the night, its a long way from white to black. Yes, black is feared as it epitomises the unknown, the mystic, the esoteric. But lets turn the arguement on its head and say - hey after all isnt life one BIG fantasy or an adventure. Who cares , anyways its only till then and then what???? the void or black - a total inescapable blackout. Thats inevitable!!! Yes in a black world - when there is no electricity-we feel afraid- we lose the big advantage of seeing everyhing clearly. We lose control and we flounder. Night vision is zero and so our productivity hits an all time low.

But I have alwayus loved black, be it the prospect of a rainy day filled with dark, ominous nimbus clouds or be it the jet black bonnet of a limousine.
Black - elegant, wholesome, majestic

Black as in the long black curls of a young maiden or the jet black ink from a Parker
Black - beautiful, stylish, neat

Black as in the letters of a neatly typed out letter or the blackness of sleep
Black - fluid, uncontrollable, unknown

Black as in the colour of the retina or the black pepper seeds
Black - the untold truth, the infinite potential, the inescapable rhythm

Black as in the blackness of night or the black of shoe polish
Black - adventurous, magical, distinct

Black is when the surface absorbs all light and nothing is reflected. It thus presents a spectrum of infinte energy holed up. A black hole is precisely what it is called - everything light, sound, matter nothing can stand in its way; everything is gobbled up. It may seem a bit odd but the Blackness of life cannot prevent us from the light that is Death.
